How does the BSR work?
The BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR) works like an optical mouse. THe red light on the foot is a red LED lights up when the foot is activated and supplies light to the sensor on the BSR foot. Altrhough BERNINA could have chosen any color the the light, red was chosen.
As the fabric is moved under the foot, the optical sensor reads the movement and activates the down and up movement of the needle.
Even though the light is red, the BSR's optical sensor does work on red fabric.
