Frequently Asked Questions
Should the tension be adjusted for decorative stitching?
Decorative stitches often are sewn with rayon, metallic or polyester thread through the needle and a lighter weight thread in the bobbin.
Sew a sample with the threads you have chosen. If you notice that the bobbin thread pulls to the top, then reduce the needle tension to a lower number.
Your BERNINA® has a bobbin case with a bobbin case finger or an embroidery bobbin case with a pigtail. Threading the bobbin thread through the bobbin case finger or the pigtail will often compensate for the differences in thread weights.
Decorative stitches can also be sewn with the same thread top and bottom if both sides of the item will be seen when in use. The tension will not usually need to be changed if the same thread is used in the needle as on the bobbin.
