Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change the built-in stipple stitch on my BERNINA® to make it look more like a free motion stipple stitch?
Indeed you can change the Stipple Stitch #327! You can adjust Stitch Length, Balance, and Pattern Extension. Use the Needle Down function and a scrap of muslin with batting to experiment and write the settings on the muslin as you proceed.
- Stitch Length: Do a row of normal, one of Stitch Length 3 and one of length 5, etc. Touch the Clear button to remove all changes before proceeding.
- Balance: Try balancing the stitch 5 steps open (down arrow) to see the effect, then 8, etc. Touch Clear again.
- Pattern Extend: Try 2, 3, 4 to see what happens. Touch Clear again.
Next, try combining any or all of these. When you find a combination you like, then do several rows. Leave the needle down at the end of each row, turn the fabric and go back with the next row adjacent to the previous row. We like the look of Balance 5 steps open (down arrow) combined with Pattern Extend x2.
A unique feature of many of the BERNINA® machines is the ability to alter and save balance changes within the machine's memory or file drawers. When you find a combination of stippling you like, save and store it for future use!
A reminder - with some of the BERNINA® machines after balancing a stitch when you are experimenting, remember to either press "reset" in the balance screen or press the CLR button on the machine front to return the balance settings to normal. If this is not done, the balance changes made will affect the next stitch used.
