Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bernina have a presser foot that I can use to sew large cording into a pillow or a seam?
There are two BERNINA® feet that home decor sewers find useful when working with piping.
- The Bulky Overlock Foot #12/12C is used for standard piping. The needle opening in the foot is wide enough to use various needle positions to cover the stitching when you sew the piping into the seam. When making the piping, place the fabric wrapped cord under the foot so the seam allowance is under the right side of the foot and the cording is in the groove. Use the half right needle position to sew it. When you sew the piping into the seam, move the needle position again to the right and the stitching on the piping will not show.
- The Leather Roller Foot #55 is used for sewing leather, doing free-form decorative work, and applying very thick piping. Make the jumbo piping with the needle position in far-left position, and then attach it with needle position in half-left position so the piping stitching won't show in the finished project.
Instructions come with most of the feet, but there are more detailed instructions in our Feet-ures publication, a comprehensive full-color reference guide to all BERNINA® presser feet, attachments and accessories. There are three (3) Feet-ures volumes available at your local BERNINA® store. Detailed instructions for creating piping using the Bulky Overlock Foot #12/12C and the Leather Roller Foot #55 can be found in Feet-ures Volume 1.
